What a weekend for the Hive. A honey harvest party on Friday night, and then a day at the Festival of Food outside the Festival Hall on Saturday. We set up a stall complete with ‘Save The Bees’ petition, leaflets, observation hive and honey tombola.
Bert ran some cables down from the roof so people could listen live to the inside of the Festival Hive.
The reactions were great - apparently it sounds like a flock of sheep or the inside of a boat / cathedral / your head and is terrifying / strangely calming. If you listen long enough Bert swears you can hear voices. Decide for yourself here.
We raised loads of pound coins and the odd note for Bees for Development, and it was lovely to meet people and tell them about the hive. Lots of requests to go up on the roof and visit so perhaps we could do something like that for Open House weekend next year.
The whole Festival had a bee theme, so Betty went off to the Busy Bee tent and came back in a newly made bee outfit. Here she is with new pal Bessie (all the B’s).
Thanks to everyone who stopped by and especially to Corinne and Fleur who spontaneously joined the team and did a sterling job gathering signatures and encouraging the wary to listen. Big up also to Phil Hallet from Southbank Centre who made it all happen - he the man.
